Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help detect and prevent spam.

An anonymized string (hash) generated from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to check if you’re using it. You can read the Gravatar service’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once your comment is approved, your profile picture will be visible to the public alongside your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, avoid including embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors may download and extract location data from images hosted on the site.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. This is for your convenience, so you don’t need to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year.

When you visit our login page, a temporary cookie is set to determine if your browser accepts cookies. It contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

Upon logging in, several cookies will be set to save your login information and screen display preferences. Login cookies last two days; screen options cookies last a year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out removes these cookies.

Editing or publishing an article will save an additional cookie in your browser, which simply records the post ID of the article. It contains no personal data and expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles). Embedded content behaves as if the visitor had visited the external site directly. These websites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content if you are logged into their site.

Who we share your data with

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

We may also share your data with select partners who help us deliver value to our users—for example, trusted analytics or service providers that support the running of this website. These partners are carefully chosen and are never permitted to sell your data or use it outside the scope of their direct service to us.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely to help us recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically.

For registered users (if any), we store the personal information they provide in their profile. Users can view, edit, or delete their information at any time (except for usernames). Site administrators can also see and manage this data.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account or have left comments, you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you. You may also request that we delete this data. This excludes any information we must retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where your data is sent

Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service
